LICENSE.TXT APRS LICENSE Copyright 1992-99 ========================================================================= Document version: 8.2.7 Document dated: 11 Jan 99 Author(s): Bob Bruninga, WB4APR ABSTRACT LICENSE.TXT Licensing requirements for APRS and Licensed Versions ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ REGISTRATION: Amateur radio operators may freely copy and use the APRS software in the Amateur Radio Service. I have tried to make APRS fully capable of receiving and plotting ALL on-the-air packets whether a station is registered or not. The registration contribution only balances the headache factor, and to cover myself against un-licensed commercial exploitation. What you get for registering is the ability to interface your own GPS and WX units and a little convenience in saving your configuration. LICENSE: The APRS protocols were developed for amateur and commercial use. In the spirit of the Amateur Radio Service, HAMS may apply the APRS protocols in in their own software or projects for personal or non-commercial, non- profit applications as long as a copy of this license is included in all such projects. However, I do reserve rights to a modest share of any profits made in the use of these protocols. Such users will be licensed to use the APRS registered trademark. Licensing is not intended to be restrictive, but to provide a means for maintaining a consistent and quality managed on-air protocol and for me to share modestly in any proceeds that others may make from APRS sales. TRADEMARKS: APRS, Mic-Encoder, Mic-E and Vicinity Tracking are Trademarks and the APRS protocols are copyrighted material of APRS Engineering LLC. President, Bob Bruninga, WB4APR. The owner reserves all rights and privileges to their use as detailed in the above license.
