SKYCOMMAND SETUP NOTES From Kenwood! 27 Feb 2007 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- IF YOU ARE HAVING PROBLEMS GETTING SKY COMMAND WORKING USING THESE INSTRUCTIONS, DO INSTRUCTIONS 1 to 7 FIRST. A) Start Hyperterminal from Windows and set it for the correct port and at same speed as set for access in packet, while PC is connected to TS2000 via a cable to its 9 pin connector. B) Turn on Packet Mode in the TS2000 menu 55. TNC parameters should now be accessible. C) Perform a TNC RESET command via the hyperterminal screen (i.e. type RESET). THIS IS NECESSARY BECAUSE THE TS2000 NEVER RESETs THE TNC, NOT EVEN DURING A FULL RADIO RESET. D) Set mycall (it should be the TRANSPORTER call), set monitor, set unproto (it should be SC2). THIS STEP MAY NOT BE NECESSARY. E) Turn off packet mode in the TS2000 menu 55. F) NOTE: WHEN YOU FOLLOW THE KENWOOD INSTRUCTIONS, make sure that both frequencies are simplex, FM, in VFO mode. VHF FREQUENCY MUST BE IN MAIN on TS2000 and UHF in SUB on TS2000. NOW follow the Kenwood Instructions: SKY COMMAND INSTRUCTIONS FROM KENWOOD Here is Step By Step operation for Sky Command with the Kenwood TS-2000, TS-2000X, & TS-B2000 along with the TH-D7A, AG handheld. Setting up the TS-2000, TS-2000X, & TS-B2000 as the "TRANSPORTER" Step ONE Go to the SUB band and enter your simplex frequency (example 446.050 FM NO PL or NO offset - or + ) Step TWO Go to the MAIN band and enter your simplex frequency ( example 146.580 FM NO PL or NO offset - or + )( BOTH THE MAIN AND SUB BAND MUST BE IN VFO MODE, IT WILL NOT WORK IN MEMORY MODE ) Step THREE Go to MENU 62 press SUB, then turn the MULTI/CH to 62A enter the Commander call sign (example W6DJY) follow the directions for call sign entry on page 85 in your instruction manual or you may enter it from you MCP-2000 memory programming software from the menu section. If you need to delete a character please press the CLEAR key below the XIT key. The software is available for free on the Kenwood web site http://www.kenwwod.net Step FOUR turn the MULTI/CH channel to 62B and enter the Transporter call sign (example W6DJY-1) follow the same instruction as step 3. Step FIVE Go to menu 62C and set the tone frequency (example 88.5Hz) Step SIX Go to menu 62D and select 1200 bps. Step SEVEN Go to menu 46 and select SUB Step EIGHT Exit the menu by pressing the MENU key. Now make sure the TS-2000, TS-2000X, or TS-B2000 display shows these examples Main Band 146.580 FM, and the Sub band is 446.050 FM ( NOTHING else NO PL, and NO Offsets), and leave the PTT band on the SUB BAND 446.050 FM ******************************************************************** NOTE: CTRL and PTT MUST BE on SUB and not MAIN - this is important ******************************************************************** Setting up the Kenwood TH-D7A, or TH-D7A(G) as the "COMMANDER" Step NINE Access MENU 4-1 enter the commander call sign (example again is W6DJY) to store the call press M.IN Step TEN Access MENU 4-2 and enter the transporter call sign (example W6DJY-1) to store the call press M.IN Step ELEVEN Access MENU 4-3 and enter the tone frequency (example 88.5Hz same as the TS-2000, TS-2000X, TS-B2000) Step TWELVE Enter the same two simplex frequencies you entered in the TS-2000, TS-2000X, TS-B2000 which is 146.580 FM simplex on MAIN BAND, and 446.050 FM simplex on SUB BAND. NOW you may activate the CONTROL OPERATION for Sky Command Step THIRTEEN First switch the TS-2000, TS-2000X, TS-B2000 ON and select "TRANSPORTER" from menu 62E Step FOURTEEN Please turn on the TH-D7A, TH-D7A(G) access MENU 4-4 on the TH-D7A and select "COMMANDER", now toggle to OK to select Commander. Now the display will show PUSH (0) KEY TO START COMMANDER Step FIFTEEN ADJUST THE SQUELCH TO ABOUT 11:00 O'CLOCK (ON THE SUB BAND) set TS-2000 Main Squelch to 7 o'clock (unsquelched) volume on TS2000 does not matter Step SIXTEEN "NOW STEP several FEET AWAY" from the Transporter (TS-2000, TS-2000X, TS-B2000 ) Step SEVENTEEN Now press the ( ZERO #0 ) or Key to start the TH-D7A, AG Sky Command Mode. You will hear the TH-D7A(G) SEND A PACKET STREAM, and the TS2000 will reply. The TH-D7A, AG display will show an example similar to this ............ 14.200.00 A RIT: OFF USB Once you are in this mode Kenwood Sky Command is active, and to control the TS-2000, TS-2000X, and TS-B2000 follow the instructions on page 84, & 85 in the TS-2000 manual. 18) Remember to press the #2 or key on TH-D7 to activate receive audio from the TS2000 - you will hear CW ID and then the HF audio comes on the TH-D7. you may have to use the #3 or key on the TH-D7 to put the TS2000 in the correct mode. 19) Change bands and frequency using feature on TH-D7. NOTE: Once you enter and exit SKY COMMAND mode on the TS2000 you will see CT showing for tones in the sub band. Leave these as they do not hurt anything.
